Betamethasone (Celestone) is a drug which is classified as a steroid. Betamethasone prevents the release of substances in the body that cause inflammation. Betamethasone Valerate is known to work by stopping the secretion and activity of phospholipase A2 – one of the enzymes that are used in the synthesis of prostaglandins and leukotrienes. The prostaglandins and leukotrienes are responsible for inflammation. The activity of Betamethasone Valerate, therefore, reduces the unwanted signs of inflammation.
Betamethasone Valerate is also known to reduce the itching and redness of the skin as a result of the above conditions.
