Arcet is a medication prescribed for migraine and tension headaches. A tension headache is a diffuse, mild to moderate pain in the head that is often described as “a tight band around the head.” Tension headaches are primarily characterized by pain on both sides of the head that may be linked to muscle pain. The active ingredients of Arcet work differently to help ease tension headaches. Butalbital, a sedative helps decrease anxiety to induce sleep and relaxation. Acetaminophen helps ease the pain from the headache. Caffeine, on the other hand, is a stimulant that helps enhance the effects of acetaminophen. Note the active ingredients in Arcet are habit forming and can cause physical dependence when used for a long time. Arcet is used to treat the following conditions.
- Tension headaches
- Migraine headaches
Arcet dosage may differ from one individual to the other based on factors such as age, weight, medical history, response to treatment and the severity of the condition being treated. Arcet comes with a medication guide in the products package. The medication guide should be read comprehensively and if you have any questions contact your doctor or physician. Below you will find a typical dosage of Arcet.
- Adults and children 12 years of age and older: 1 or 2 capsules or tablets every 4 hours as needed. However, the dose is usually not more than 6 capsules or tablets every 24 hours
