Amlactin Uses

Amlactin improves skin health with a combination of light exfoliation and increasing moisture retention. It"s carefully pH balanced for safety, but the acids in the lotion work to gently remove the top layers of dead or damaged skin. Amlactin also increases skin health by causing the deeper layers of the skin to become thicker, leading to much firmer skin. It"s commonly prescribed to pregnant women for skin problems caused by pregnancy, which are sometimes called the "mask of pregnancy". Other conditions treated by Amlactin can include keratosis pilaris, sun damage, acne scarring, and xerosis. It"s especially helpful for preserving skin as users age.

Amlactin Dosage

There are several different varieties of Amlactin that can be selected depending upon the particular condition of the patient. They can be used without the supervision or prescription of a physician, but it"s recommended to speak to a healthcare professional about the treatment to ensure safety and proper usage. There is no standard or recommended dosage, but patients should plan on using the lotion at least once daily. To get the most accurate recommended dosage, consult with your physician or dermatologist about your skin condition and the skincare regimen that will be best for you.

Amlactin Side Effects

Use of Amlactin may result in some unwanted side effects. However, it is almost always entirely safe provided that the patient uses the lotion exactly as directed. Amlactin can increase sensitivity to sunlight, so patients must be careful about their exposure to the sun and must always wear sunscreen. Other possible side effects of Amlactin can include:

  • skin sensitivity
  • mild skin irritation
  • skin discoloration
  • redness
  • itching
  • swelling

Alert your physician if any of those side effects become persistent or particularly worrisome while using Amlactin. Lotions with a concentration of alpha-hydroxy larger than 10% should be used only under the supervision of a dermatologist to ensure safety and prevent harsher side effects.

Amlactin Interactions

Some other medications or products can interact with Amlactin in a way that decreases its effectiveness and/or increases certain side effects. Provide your physician with a complete list of any medications and supplements that you are currently taking or plan to take during treatment before starting Amlactin. This allows them to ensure that negative interactions will be avoided. However, since Amlactin is generally very mild and is applied to the surface of the skin rather than taken internally, the risk of interaction is very low. At this time there are no medications or products known to regularly interact with Amlactin.
