The drug works by blocking certain electrical signals in the heart that are responsible for causing the irregular heartbeat. It works in the lower chambers of the heart that allow blood flow out of the heart. Amiodarone HCL-D5W can also be used to treat other medical condition as the physician may subscribe. Amiodarone HCL-D5W Dosage
Amiodarone HCL-D5W dosage should be administered as prescribed by a certified medical practitioner. The drug is supplied in the form of a solution thus it should only be administered as an injection IV in adults and orally in pediatric patients.
Usual adult’s dosage for:
- Arrhythmias; 150 mg for the first 10 minutes followed by 360 mg over the next 6 hours. The dosage can be increased depending on the patient’s response to the drug and the severity off the condition.
Usual pediatrics’ dosage for Superventricular tachycardia:
- Less than 1 month; 10 to 20 mg/kg/day orally in 2 doses for 7 to 10 days.
- Less than 1 year; 600-800 mg/173mA2/day orally. This should be should be 4-14 day and the dose be divided in 2 per day.
- Greater than 1 year; 10-15 mg/kg/day orally. Take it for 4 to 14 days in 2 divided doses per day.
