Alprazolam Er is a drug used in the treatment of anxiety. It is, therefore, known as an anxiolytic drug. It is used in the treatment of generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), social anxiety disorder (SAD), panic disorders, and in some cases to treat nausea from by chemotherapy.
Alprazolam Er is an extended-release preparation, administered via the oral route (though it is also available as a sublingual preparation). It is a benzodiazepine which works by binding to a receptor in the brain called GABA A , an inhibitor neurotransmitter that dulls any over-excited states in the brain.
Common side effects with Alprazolam Er include drowsiness, fatigue, memory problems, rebound anxiety in the morning, and lack of coordination.
