The drug is formed by combing two medicines,chlorpheniramine and phenylephrine. Phenylephrine is the decongestant factor in this combination, and it works by shrinking the blood vessels to reduce the blood flow to treats the symptom of a stuffy nose. Chlorpheniramine is the antihistamine agent in this combination, and it blocks the effects of natural histamine in the body to prevent sneezing, itchiness, and watery eyes. Always take Allantan dosage exactly as it is prescribed. Allantan is supplied in the form of a solution or liquid and it should be orally administered. It is always advisable to take this drug with a plenty of water of not less than one glass. It is always important to avoid taking this medication in large or small amount as this would negatively affect the patient's health. Also don't take for a longer period than prescribed. - Allergic Rhinitis: I tablet (2-5 mg) every 4 to 6 hours. The maximum is 6 doses a day.
- For sustained-release suspension: 1 tablet (8 mg-20 mg) every 12 hours.
- Cold symptoms: I tablet (2-5 mg) every 4 to 6 hours. The maximum is 6 doses a day.
- For immediate-release suspension: 15 mL orally every 12 hours.
Pediatric Allantan dosage
- Allergic Rhinitis and cold symptoms:
- 6-11 months: 0.75 mL orally 4 times a day.
- 1-2 years: 1 mL orally four times a day.
- 2-5 years: 1 mL orally every 4-6 hours and a maximum of 4 doses a day.
- 12 years and older: 10 ml orally every 4 hours.
