Aldara is a topical drug that is used to treat external warts around the rectal and genital areas that are called condyloma acuminatum. Aldara is not used for warts that are found inside the rectal and genital areas. Aldara works in the immune system to assist the body to fight several viruses that cause warts. It does not attack the virus directly.

Aldara is a drug that modifies the immune response. Aldara is used for the treatment of actinic keratosis. Actinic keratosis is a condition that is caused by too much exposure to sunlight either on the face, scalp or both. Aldara is also used in the treatment of minor forms of skin cancer that are known as superficial basal cell carcinoma. This is only applicable in cases where surgery is not needed. Aldara is also used in the treatment of genital warts that are seen outside the body, not as a cure but a form of treatment.

Aldara is given to those who are 12 years and older, but it is not recommended for children. Before using this medication ensure that you have read the leaflet and have understood it. In case there is something that is not clear ask your doctor about it before using Aldara.
- The cream should be applied to the infected area once per day, preferably before bedtime. This should go on for two weeks with cycles being two weeks apart.
- There is no treatment period of using this medication, it will depend on your body reaction to the medicine and the doctor's instruction.
