Afinitor Uses

Afinitor is used to treat kidney cancer, benign kidney tumors, rare pancreatic cancer, breast cancer, and brain tumors. It works by slowing the growth and spread of cancer cells in the body. Typically, the drug is prescribed when other medications have failed. The drug also works to prevent rejection of kidney and liver transplants after surgery.

Afinitor targets a certain protein (mTOR) in the body that advances cancer cells in the body. Blocking this protein helps to slow the growth of these cells. The prescription drug comes in a tablet form and should be taken at the same time every day.
