This is caused due to low levels of calcium and a certain kind of vitamin D. Zemplar contains an active form of vitamin D and may help the body to absorb calcium and phosphorous. A patient should note that an active vitamin D is not the same as vitamin D supplements. Below you will find the uses of Zemplar.
- Secondary Hyperparathyroidism
Before you start the medication, the doctor should measure blood levels of the parathyroid hormone, calcium, and phosphorus. It is important if the patient follows the medication plan exactly as the doctor has ordered and any other instructions about diet and phosphorus intake. A patient may need frequent blood tests while using Zemplar to determine the levels of vitamin D and calcium in their body.
- The doctor will decide the dosage based on the patient's baseline intact parathyroid hormone level (iPTH).
