Rh immunoglobulin is a drug used in the treatment of blood disorders associated with pregnancy and blood transfusions. It is administered to the patient via the intramuscular route.

Rh immunoglobulin may also be used in the treatment of specific blood disorders such as immune thrombocytopenia purpura (ITP). Rh immunoglobulin may also be used for purposes not listed in this guide, at the discretion of the prescriber.

Rh immunoglobulin is used in the treatment of the following conditions:

  • Prophylaxis against blood disorders in pregnancy
  • Immune thrombocytopenia purpura (ITP)

Rh immunoglobulin Dosage

The dosage of Rh immunoglobulin depends on the needs of the patient, and the extent of their pain severity. The dose also depends on whether the patient is taking any additional medications or has an underlying illness.

Rh-incompatible pregnancy

  • Adult Dose: 300mcg to be administered IM at gestational week 26-28, or within 72 hours of delivering a Rho (D) positive baby.

Immune thrombocytopenia purpura

  • Adult Dose: 50mcg/kg to be administered IV as 2mL per 15/60 seconds.
