Prolia Uses

Prolia is used in the treatment of postmenopausal women with osteoporosis, as well as to increase bone mass in men with osteoporosis. Prolia is used in patients who are at high risk for fracture, have a history of osteoporotic fracture, or patients who have failed or are intolerant to other available osteoporosis therapies and medications. Prolia is used to treat bone loss in men with prostate cancer. Prolia is used in women with breast cancer who are receiving certain treatments that increase their risk for fractures. The drug is also used to reduce fractures from cancers which begin in other parts of the body and subsequently spread to the bones.

Prolia Dosage

Dosing of Prolia will vary amongst patients. The prescribing doctor's orders and directions on the label should always be followed. The amount of Prolia needed depends on the strength, the number of doses taken each day, the time between doses, the length of time taken, and the diagnosis of the patient.

  • Usual dosage of Prolia for Adults: 60mg as a single subcutaneous injection once every six months. If a dose is missed, it should be administered as soon as possible, and then scheduled injections should continue every six months from the date of the last injection.
  • All patients should receive 1000mg of calcium daily and at least 400 IU of vitamin D daily while receiving Prolia.
