Meloxicam is an anti-inflammatory medication that is used to treat symptoms of arthritis. While Meloxicam can not cure arthritis, it can work to relieve swelling, stiffness, and joint pain.
Meloxicam is a drug used in the treatment of inflammation and pain. In this capacity, meloxicam is used - more specifically - in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, and other, similar inflammatory states, as determined by the prescriber. Meloxicam may also be used for purposes not listed here.
Meloxicam belongs to the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAID) class of medicines. It works by blocking an enzyme called COX, an enzyme otherwise responsible for the formation of pro-inflammatory mediators. For example, COX converts arachidonic acid to prostaglandin H2; prostaglandins being agents in the body that promote the inflammatory response.
Common side effects with meloxicam include upset stomach, nausea, indigestion, dizziness, and cold-like symptoms.
