Lovenox Uses

Lovenox is an anticoagulant that is used to prevent deep vein thrombosis, to keep blood clots out of your system. Lovenox is usually used after knee or hip surgery to combat the chances of a blood clot forming in blood vessels of the lungs and arteries of the heart.

By using Lovenox with warfarin, one can't prevent chest pain and heart attacks.

Lovenox Dosage

Lovenox dosage is completely dependent on the individual that takes it, as it can be used for a variety of conditions. The amount of Lovenox taken will depend on a variety of factors, including the age of the individual, the strength of each injection, and the amount of times you plan on receiving the injection.

Lovenox dosage to treat deep vein thrombosis

  • (Abdominal surgery) For adults, inject 40mg once a day for 7-10 days. Note that the first injection should be given 2 hours before surgery.
  • (Hip or knee surgery) For adults, inject 30mg once a day for 7-10 days. The dosage may be upped to 40mg if you are undergoing hip surgery.
  • For children, consult with your doctor before usage and dosage.

Lovenox dosage to treat chest pain and myocardial infarction

  • For adults, the dosage should be confirmed with your doctor as it is based on the patient's weight. However, dosage is usually 1mg for each kg of body weight. Aspirin may be used in combination with Lovenox.
  • For children, consult with your doctor before usage and dosage.

Lovenox dosage to treat an acute heart attack

  • For adults, the dosage should be confirmed with your doctor as it is based on a patient's weight. However, dosage is usually 30mg for each kg of body weight. Aspirin may be used in combination with Lovenox.
