Efudex is usually prescribed to treat or eliminate cancerous and precancerous growths on the skin. It does this by blocking the growth of abnormal cells on the skin. It's also used to treat multiple actinic or solar keratoses, which are skin growths caused by excessive exposure to sunlight. These can be either cancerous or noncancerous.
