Dicyclomine Uses

Dicyclomine treats symptoms for individuals experiencing irritable bowel syndrome, spastic colon and colitis. This medication works by blocking the release of acetylcholine, a chemical that is responsible for causing muscle spasms.

Dicyclomine Dosage

Dicyclomine dosage is completely dependent on the individual who takes it as it can be used for a variety of different treatments, including varying. Note that the amount of Dicyclomine, you take, depends on the brand on the market, strength of each pill and the amount of times you plan on taking each day.

  • Adults: at first, 20mg to be taken four times a day.
  • Thereafter, dosage should be increased to 40 mg four times a day.
  • Individuals should see some relief after two weeks.
  • Maximum dosage not to exceed 80 mg daily.

Dicyclomine Side Effects

Individuals who have had a history of glaucoma, difficulty urinating, heartburn, high blood pressure, overactive thyroid gland or a history of liver, kidney or heart disease should notify their doctor before taking this medication. Studies have not shown that this medication taken up to 40 mg/day, presents any dangers to developing fetus in pregnant women.

Dicyclomine, like any other drug, comes with its collection of side effects that vary with each who uses it. This medication may cause blurred vision in certain individuals. Other individuals have reported fever and heat strokes with use of this medication. Common side effects include:
