Requip is a medication manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline and used in the treatment of Parkinson's disease and restless leg syndrome. Requip is one of the three medications approved by the FDA to treat Parkinson's disease. Requip has the same effects at dopamine, which is a neurotransmitter in the brain.
Requip belongs to the drug class dopaminergic antiparkinsonian agents. It has some of the same effects as a naturally occurring chemical in your body known as dopamine. Parkinson’s disease is caused by having low levels of dopamine in the brain.
This medication is used to treat symptoms of Parkinson’s disease that is characterised by poor muscle control, stiffness, muscle spasms, and tremors. Requip can also be used to treat restless legs syndrome (RLS).
This drug works by helping in restoring the balance of certain natural substance in the brain, which is dopamine. Requip also decreases the number of episodes of not being able to move.
