Abilify is a medicine used in the treatment of major depressive disorder, tic disorders, and irritability (particularly in patients with autism). Abilify has also been used in the treatment of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. Abilify is, therefore, classified as an antipsychotic drug, one that works by agonising (enhancing the effects of) various serotonin receptors in the central nervous system. Abilify stays in the body for a long time, as it has an elimination half-life of 75 hours (meaning it takes 75 hours to eliminate half of the drug from the body etc.). Common side effects with Abilify include weight gain, blurred vision, headache, anxiety, nausea, insomnia, and cold-like symptoms.
