Carboplatin Uses

Carboplatin works by interrupting development and growth of cancer cells. It is used specifically in the treatment of ovarian and cervical cancers, plus some pediatric cancers, including brain tumors and solid tumors. It can also be used in preparation for a bone marrow transplant. Carboplatin may not be appropriate for patients who suffer from severe bone marrow or bleeding disorders, kidney problems, or low electrolyte levels. It may also cause reactions in patients who have an allergy to platinum.

Dosage of Carboplatin depends on the individual and the condition being treated. You should always take medication precisely as your doctor prescribes it. Recurring Ovarian Cancer

  • When combined with 600 mg of cyclophosphamide, the dose is 300 mg per square meter of skin surface area, repeated every four weeks for six cycles. Using the Calvert formula, carboplatin may be given alone in a dose ranging from 600 to 900 mg, which does not take skin surface area into account, but rather is determined based on blood serum measurements to prevent overdose.
