Azelex cream belongs to the drug class topical antibacterial. It is used to treat mild to moderate acne. This medication works by blocking the production of proteins that are needed by bacteria to survive. This medication also works by reducing the amount of acne-causing bacteria that are on the skin. This helps to keep the pores unblocked and open, and in return reducing acne pimples. Some medications may interact with Azelex, but little or any of this medication is absorbed into the blood. This means the risk is low of it interacting with another medicine. If there are any medications that you are taking, ask your healthcare provider if they may interact with Azelex.
