Aptiom is used in conjunction with other medications to treat a certain type of seizure disorder. Eslicarbazepine belongs to a class of drugs called anticonvulsants. It may further reduce the number of seizures you have. This medication is said to apply its anticonvulsant effect by inhibition of voltage-gated sodium channels. It reaches peak concentrations in about one to four hours after oral administration.
Aptiom dosage is dependent on the individual that it is being administered to. The following dosage is an average dose and could differ among individuals. Follow your medical professional's directions for best results.
- This medication should be taken by mouth with or without food and as directed by your doctor.
- Treatment with Aptiom should begin with a dosage of 400 mg once daily.
- After about a week, the dosage should be increased to 800 mg once daily, which is the recommended dose.
- Some patients may also benefit from the maximum cost of maintenance dose of up to 1200 mg once daily.
- However, this treatment is linked with a rise in adverse reactions as initiated after the patient has overcome the 800 mg dose in one week.
