Actonel Uses

Actonel is mainly used to maintain and increase bone density, while also lowering a person's odds of bone thinning. Actonel Dosage

Actonel dosage is completely dependent on the individual that takes it, as it can be used for a variety of conditions. Note that the amount of Actonel you take also depends on the age of the individual. In addition to that the amount of Actonel you take also depends on the strength of each pill/tablet and the amount of times you plan on taking the pill/tablet a day.

Regular tablet: Actonel should be taken with a glass of water while on an empty stomach. Actonel should also be taken fresh out of bed and 30 minutes before any consumption of food.

For the delayed-release tablet: Actonel should be taken whole with a glass of water. Actonel should also be taken in the morning directly after breakfast.

Actonel regular dosage to treat postmenopausal osteoporosis

  • For adults, take 5 mg once a day or 35mg once a week.
  • Actonel is not recommended for children

Actonel regular dosage to treat men with osteoporosis

  • For adults, take 35mg once a week
  • Actonel is not recommended for children

Actonel dosage to treat Paget's disease

  • For adults, take 30mg once a day
  • Actonel is not recommended for children

Actonel Side Effects

Drugs that interact with Actonel

Do not take any antacids, vitamins, or calcium for a period of 30 minutes after consuming your Actonel dosage. These may make Actonel absorption harder.
